About NREV

National Real Estate Ventures, LLC (NREV) is a Florida-based commercial real estate firm with a legacy rooted in visionary development. Founded in 2011 by Peter Monroe, NREV builds on the principles of Rutenberg Commercial Developers (RCD), co-founded in 1984 by Monroe and his first mentor, Charles Rutenberg — former CEO of U.S. Home, then the nation’s largest homebuilder.

Between 1984 and 1989, RCD developed over 1 million square feet of high-end retail and office space, including five landmark Pinellas County projects that remain among Florida’s most successful commercial developments: Northwood Plaza, The Fountains, Forest Lakes Plaza, Northwood Commons, and Granada Plaza.

In April 2014, NREV and Monroe were honored with the Mayor’s Award of Excellence by the City of Safety Harbor for revitalizing Northwood Commons (developed and fully leased by NREV in 1989), which had been poorly managed by subsequent owners. Within one year, NREV, as receiver and manager, achieved a complete turnaround — increased leased % to 95%, launching a beautification program, updating signage, and transforming a neglected swamp into a budding nature preserve.

Monroe brings a rare blend of commercial real estate vision and nonpartisan public service. His mentor into public service, Mel Sembler — legendary shopping center developer and former Chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers — recognized Monroe’s talent at the grand opening of Northwood Plaza and encouraged him to enter federal service. Monroe went on to serve as COO of the FHA, where Jack Kemp, HUD Secretary, awarded him the prestigious Secretary’s Award for Excellence on June 8, 1990. Later that year, President Bush appointed Monroe to be President of the RTC Oversight Board, whose Board Members included Fed Chair Alan Greenspan, Treasury Secretary Nick Brady, and Kemp. Monroe was the Bush Administration’s first and leading proponent of reforming the RTC’s $500 billion mortgage sales program from non-competitive auctions to securitization (“CMBS”)— thereby saving taxpayers tens of billions. Shortly after Bill Clinton was elected, he invited Monroe, then a Republican, to join his Administration. This spirit of principled nonpartisanship now guides NREV’s search for its next-generation CEO.

A lifelong commitment to excellence shapes Monroe’s leadership — from Williams College to Oxford University to Harvard Law School — and decades of hands-on civic and commercial impact. READ MORE
